Geographic Place Names Project: September 2007, Janet Ward reported that the proposal to change St. Mary's Nipple to St. Mary's Knoll was approved!  At Winter Board, 2008, Janet announced her hiatus from the project. Read the history of this effort on our State Legislation page.

Pay Equity is Still an Issue

According to AAUW’s research report, Behind the Pay Gap, just one year after college graduation women working full time earn only 77 percent of what their male counterparts earn — even when working in the same career field.

Even after controlling for hours, occupation, parenthood, and other factors known to affect earnings, AAUW research indicates that one-quarter of the pay gap remains unexplained and is likely due to sex discrimination. Over time, the unexplained portion of the pay gap grows. This pay gap persists despite the fact that women outperform men in every college major, including mathematics and science.

For issues being debated at the federal level, including efforts to prevent stacking the courts with radical judges and the privatization of Social Security - a program that many women and people with disabilities depend on to stay out of poverty - learn more by clicking here. Join efforts in your area to strengthen, not dismantle, this beneficial program.

AAUW also worked diligently against budget reconciliation that would eliminate programs essential to women and girls while maintaining tax cuts for the wealthy.
