Orofino IDAHO Branch
Welcome to the Orofino Branch web page. The Orofino Branch was founded in 1935. Throughout the years,
our members have included teachers, librarians, writers, office managers, and
journalists. We have welcomed medical technologists, artists, lawyers, community
leaders, doctors, business women, outdoor enthusiasts and stay-at-home moms. We
share a common regard for the advancement of women and girls through education.
The Orofino Branch of AAUW hosts events and participates in
community life. In 2005 we became the sponsors of the Patchwork Bazaar, a
holiday arts and crafts fair held the first Saturday in December. Many
individuals and community organizations participate in the Patchwork Bazaar as
vendors. This is one of the Orofino Branch fundraisers.
We also raise money for branch projects by co-sponsoring a
food booth at Lumberjack Days in mid-September.
In service to community, we host a "Rally for a Cure" golf
event on the 2nd Tuesday in July to increase awareness about breast cancer and
breast health. We partner with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Supporting Education:
- The Orofino Branch of AAUW provides a Music Camp
Scholarship for a young person to go to a University of Idaho summer music
workshop.
- We sponsor a Returning Student Scholarship for a
non-traditional student on an annual basis.
- Orofino Branch raises funds to support the national AAUW
Educational Foundation, which provides fellowships and grants for female
graduate students.
- We administer the Ruth Pearce Memorial Fund, moneys held in
trust to benefit Orofino High School and youth in the Orofino community.
Be Our Guest:
If you are interested in AAUW, please join us for a meeting.
We usually meet on the third Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m., October through
May. Members take turns serving a meal, which is followed by the program and
business meeting.
AAUW seeks a diverse membership. We do not discriminate on the
basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin,
disability, or class. Members support our mission statement: AAUW advances
equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. Members
hold associate's degrees or higher from regionally accredited colleges or
universities. Degrees may be equivalent in nursing and technical fields.
